Six Japanese polished bronze hand mirrors, kagami
Edo period (1603-1868) and later.
Each mirror is variously decorated in relief, comprising: one with a pair of cranes amongst pine, and bamboo, signed Tanaka Iga no kami; one with a pair of birds and satsuma, signed Kagata Kawachi Mamoru; one with peonies and bamboo with a crest of three hares, marked Fujiwara Mitsumasa saku; one with pine trees before a waterfall, marked Fujiwara Kaneyoshi; one with cranes, pine and bamboo with a two-character inscription and signed Tenkaichi Fujiwara Ieshige; one decorated with birds perched on two upright branches, signed Tenkaichi Musashi Kami; and a further one decorated with a ho-o on a leafy branch, also signed.
