拍品描述 翻译
A FINE YIXING SLIP-DECORATED ‘LOTUS’ SEAL PASTE BOX AND COVER, QIANLONG MARK AND PERIOD

China, 1736-1795. The box of circular section, with domed cover, finely painted in slip with a lotus blossom and two leaves, all on an unglazed cream-colored ground. The recessed base with an impressed four-character seal mark Qianlong nianzhi and of the period.

Provenance: From a French private collection.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and few small flakes to the slip decoration.

Weight: 94.8 g
Dimensions: Diameter 7.9 cm

Expert’s note: The small seal paste box and cover presented here, though unsigned, bears strong stylistic and technical affinities to works attributed to Yang Jichu, an artist recorded in Chongkan Jingxi Xianzhi (The Republished Jingxi Gazetteer), compiled by Tang Zhongmian during the Qing dynasty. Yang Jichu is noted as being active during the second half of the 17th and first half of the 18th century, contemporaneous with Chen Hanwen. Both are celebrated for their Yixing wares, particularly those adorned with colored slip decoration, as seen on this piece.

While circular Yixing wares with slip painting are not uncommon at all, seal paste boxes seem to be rather rare. Several slip-painted Yixing brush pots attributed to Yang Jichu and dated to the Qianlong period are preserved in the Palace Museum, Beijing, and illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Purple Sandy Ware, Beijing, 2008, pp. 114–118. Among these, two bear Yang Jichu’s seal: one with a dark brown body (no. 115) and another with a beige body (no. 116), which is particularly similar in tone to the current example.

While unsigned, the refined slip-painted decoration and quality of this seal paste box suggest a strong connection to Yang Jichu’s workshop or his direct influence.

For further comparison, three brush pots attributed to Yang Jichu and decorated in a similar technique have appeared at auction: A beige-bodied example with a landscape scene from the Robert H. Blumenfield Collection, sold at Christie’s New York, 22 March 2012, lot 1246; a purple-bodied example with a landscape scene from the collection of Chen Keli (1908–1985), sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 1 June 2016, lot 3374; and another purple-bodied example decorated with crabs, sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 30 November 2016, lot 3346. Compare also the slip-decoration on the present lot to a Yixing brush pot by Yang Jizhu, active during the Yongzheng and Qianlong periods (1723–1795), illustrated in Elegant Offerings from the Scholar's Studio: The Jianzong Ge Collection by Grace Wu Bruce, Hong Kong, 2002, p. 80, pl. 1. See also a Baishai Yixing brush pot with colored slip decoration, dated to the Yongzheng period, in the Palace Museum, Beijing (Gugong Zhishi Congshu: Gugongcang Zishaqi, Beijing, 2001, p. 15, pl. 15).
