Shallow bowl with polychrome palette on a pale celadon ground. The center of the bowl depicts a scene of orchids and Lingzhi fungus. Five butterflies flit above the flowers. Four various colored peonies of the famille rose family grace the back. Both orchids and fungus represent the Immortals and therefore are symbols of longevity. The peonies stand for wealth and honor. The mention of at least two longevity symbols frequently denotes a married couple. The butterflies are emblems of happiness and joy. The significance of the peonies combined with that of the orchids may be translated as ?May the Immortals bring your prosperity? or ?May you be blessed with longevity, wealth and honor. This lovely piece induces contemplation. There is a Six characters Reign mark on the reverse inside a double blue circle under glaze.. YongZheng Reign Mark, Qing Dynasty
