The domed top has a panel of pheasants in a garden with flowers and insects. There are panels of birds in plants framed by a foliate border on all sides except for the base which is blank. The contrast of the gold on chocolate is a good contrast and visually appealing. The top has two square brass hinges with slot head screws. The inside of the box is also coated in the brown lacquer. The base has a thin brown coating and has eight nail holes. There are two holes at each corner.
