This vase was painted in the Kangxi style but is from either late Qing or early Republic period c1910.A round unglazed mouth rim that has a short neck to a broad shoulder rounding down and in to a round, flanged foot. The vase has been painted with vividly-colored over glaze enamels, including iron red, green, gray, and yellow. Black has been used to accent and outline. At the mouth there is a repeating floral band. Below this is a repeating band of precious objects, and diaper pattern at the shoulder with a reduced lappet pattern below this. The body is painted with a bird in flight, a sitting bird and a peony bush. The back has a painting of two butterflies. Above the foot is a band of alternating colors. The foot is flanged with an unglazed foot. The base is glazed and has a double ring in under glaze cobalt. The vase was hand potted as you can see the pottera€?s wheel rings under the glaze. The vase is fairly heavily potted.MEASUREMENTS 6 ??a€ (16.5 cm) tall x 5a€ (12.7 cm) diameter. Weighs 1 lb 11.6 oz (780 g)CONDITION The base was drilled for a lamp but has been repaired. There are kiln flaws such as black dots, pimples, glaze runs, enamel dots and painting flaws. The enamels are still bright and colorful. The unglazed flange at the mouth suggests that the vase once had a lid.A colorful old vase in that wonderful Kangxi style. I love the delicate paintings of birds.Item ID: Por-1939
