What a stunning pair of vases these would make on a mantle or sideboard! The hand-painted flowers and birds are very fine. Step back to an earlier age with attention to detail and form.These hand blown Bristol glass vases that are perfectly matched in shape and size. The fronts are painted with very realistic birds with wings flapping to keep their balance on delicate branches. The birds are surrounded by delicate paintings of bell flowers and seeding grasses and even butterflies. I think the vases are European because the birds a European Goldfinch and a Blue Tit. The colors on the birds are vivid, well painted and very accurate. There is considerable depth to the paintings. Some of the grasses are light while other objects near the foreground are darker. The backs of the vases are painted with a delicate seeding weed. The vase shape is a tall cylinder which is wider at the mouth and also mirrored wider at the base. The glass body, which glows from within when lighted, is a pale blue translucent color. There are gilded bands at the mouth and again mirrored near the base. These vases are very matched in symmetry. The bases show ground pontil mark depressions. They have the red painted letter M on each base. There is wear on the base rings.MEASUREMENTS 11 ??a€ (29.8 cm) tall x 6 ??a€ (16.5 cm) diameter.
