An ancient divination fortune telling tool that was made from bamboo. It has wonderful dark patina and hand painted Chinese characters. The bamboo slats have marks in black painted on them.The hand carved bamboo cylinder has a dark finish and hand carved decorative rings at the top and just above the base. The carver faceted the cylinder. There are large Chinese characters in black painted on the sides. There are 23 fortune telling sticks varying in thickness that have been painted with fortune marks. The cylinder was held in a horizontal position and shaken with a snappy downward motion until just one stick dropped out. The mark on the stick would be your fortune.MEASUREMENTS 8 5/8a€ (21.9 cm) tall x 3a€ (7.6 cm) diameter. The fortune slats are approximately 9 7/8a€ (25.1 cm) long. Weighs 12.1 oz (340 g)CONDITION There are a series of thin cracks down one side. They go from the top to just above the bottom band. There is wear. You can see a thin red band at the mouth where the dark has been worn. There are also some water stain marks and some scuff marks above the base.
