An elegant ornate silver plate pickle castor by one of the best silver plate companies of the day.A heavy metal framework that has been silver-plated. The base is circular with a flange to hold the glass pickle jar. From this base, an arched framework rises. The top of the arch has an ornate finial of flowers and leaves with a central wheel and knob design. On one side of the arch is a hook to hold the tongs. The tongs are elaborate with a shield like pattern and hands that act as the tong gripper. The arch base on either side has a ball and flourish embellishment. The base has a repeating repousse design of a floral garland.The glass jar is clear and faceted with etched patterns of leaves. The base of the jar has a radiating design. The rim has a flange at the mouth to hold a silver plated lid with a crown-like finial. The lid fits perfectly.. The jar itself was pressed from a mold, and the mold lines are part of the facet pattern of the jar. The glass, which shows bubbles in the glass, has a nice weight to it. All of the pieces fit perfectly and were all original to the piece.There is a stamped mark on the base that reads, a€?W ILCOX SILVERPLATED QUADRPU LATE. a€? The stamp lost some of the lettering. The wording is circular around a pair of crossed hammers. There is the stamped manufacture number of 4615. Weighs 1 lb 15.1 oz (880 g)CONDITIONThere are no breaks or dents in the metal framework or pieces. The glass jar is perfect with no chips, or breaks. There is wear to the base of the jar from being in a metal frame. This shows age and usage.
