A small porcelain dish with paintings of crabs in water weeds.A round porcelain plate with a slight rise to the rim that has been painted with under glaze cobalt in a design of crabs around a central shou symbol. The cobalt used is a very dark black blue. The cut foot is unglazed but the base is glazed. The glaze is thick, and very smooth feeling with a shine to it.There is a small label underneath with the number 2012.91.28. The dish belonged to the Portland Art Museum in Portland Oregon and was deaccessioned.MEASUREMENTS 6 ??a€ (15.9 cm) diameter x 1 1/8a€ (2.9 cm) tall. Weighs 8.1 oz (215 g)CONDITIONThere are no cracks, or breaks. There is a small rim chip. There are kiln flaws like pimples, black spots, glaze flow lines and separations. These are especially pronounced on the back. There is wear in the central well.A great old plate with artistic designs of crabs in sea weed. The paintings reminds me of an impressionistic painting.
