Nice deep blue cobalt painted Canton export porcelain dinner plate that has an almost abstract painting of a lake with pagodas and willows. The painting is fluid, fast and experienced. The large round heavy porcelain dinner plate has been glazed with a thick, smooth, shiny glaze that has a blue cast to it. The design is of a lake scene with islands, pagodas, willows, fishermen, and a bridge. There are bands on the mouth and around the central medallion. The painting is quick and proficient using a nice dark black-blue cobalt under glaze. There are small cobalt firing explosions. There are no mistakes but the painting is like a work of modern art by Picasso. It has a very free hand. The underside is not decorated. The foot is cut and shallow. The foot is not glazed and you can see the pottera€?s wheel marks in the clay. The base is glazed. There are no marks or labels.MEASUREMENTS 10 ??a€ (26.0 cm) diameter x 1 ??a€ (3.2 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 7.8 oz (670g)CONDITION There is a shallow hairline fracture. It is not deep as the plate still rings clearly. There are no chips or breaks. Although the plate is still shiny and bright, there are scratches from wear in the center. There are kiln flaws such as black spots, pimples, and reserves.A very old piece of export porcelain to enhance a collection or for an accent to give substance to a room. I love the feel of this plate. It's so smooth.Item ID: Por-1835
