Handmade porcelain snuff bottle with crystal stopper and spoon. The glaze is thick and soft. The bottle fits well in the hand. The bottle is ovoid and made from porcelain. It has a controlled crackle glaze with red collecting in the glaze cracks. The foot ring is unglazed but there is glaze on the base. The glaze has a nice thick shiny smooth feel. The foot ring feels rough and was probably broken from the sager, as there is a chip under the foot ring on the base. The glaze color reminds me of an oxblood family glaze. These transmutation glazes in the late 19th century were often chipped from the sager. The bottle stopper has inclusions like clouds, and lines with fractures that glitter. The stopper has a cork with a yellowed spoon. The stopper fits the mouth opening. There are no marks or labels.MEASUREMENTS 2 ??a€ (7.0 cm) tall x 1 3/8a€ ( 3.5 cm) diameter. Weighs 1.7 oz (45 g)CONDITION The only damage is the chip under the foot ring which is on the base inside and does not show.I now know why snuff bottles were used. They are a nice small tactile object to be held and caressed.Item ID: Por-919
