Description: Wood. Burma, 20th century
All figures are seated in the same position. One foot is pointed up perpendicularly and one arm is held perpendicularly, touching the knee of the same leg. The facial features are serious and the clothing and headdress courtly. The animals are taken from the Burmese zodiac, which also indicates the months. The depictions of the animals vary in size and some are real while others are fantastic: two elephants, a rat and tiger, very expressive chinthe lion, manuthiha (also half lion) and the mythical eagle garuda (in Burma, galon) with beak and folded hands. All animals are set on a rectangular base, the wood colored blackish; the group was probably part of a nat house.
