Description: Lacquer and bamboo. Burma, Bagan, approx.1910-1930
A four-part cylindrical container, the outside is completely worked using the yuntechnique in orange-red, yellow, green and black with intricate scenes that recreate the Ramayana, an epic from the late Vedic age of ancient India in vignettes that also cover the lid. The inside is simply lacquered in red except for the tray-inserts, where the outside is covered with concentric color bands. The underside of the base is also decorated with a dancer.

Condition: Traces of use and wear, cracks in the lacquer surface and minor loss along the edges, white paint stains on the trays
