Description: Painting with colors and gold. India, Kashmir, first half of the 19th century
Five round medallions with pearl borders display gods in varied forms. Vishnu with his wives Lakshimi and Bhumidevi in the center, Ganesha on the left and Skanda on the right. At the very top is most likely Vishnu, depicted in his “universal form”, Vishvarupa, capable of taking on all forms. Shiva with one of his wives and, on the left, a three-headed devi. Matted.
