Description: Miniature painting with colors and gold on paper. Northern India, Kashmir, 19th century
Four-armed Shiva is holding a trishula (trident) and amrta vessel, his hair reminding of his time as an ascetic. The white bull Nandi appears before the lotus throne, above a frieze showing a worshipping Raja and his followers. Durga, the shakti and consort of Shiva, stands to his right, also holding a vessel as well as a lotus flower and sword, which appears like a sabre here.
