Description: Terracotta. Moche culture, Peru, approx. 6th century (dated) TL-test
A slightly elongated oval board with powerful toothing on the outside. Two jaguars sit across from one another positioned on the edge. Between them are two lines, between which are juxtaposed arrow lines - as emphasized by the “confrontational” character. However, both jaguars appear more like playful, curious kittens. One is entirely smooth, while the other has a pattern of small chased circles. The clay is red in color; on the underside, next to where the sample was removed for testing, is the handwritten certificate number. The Moche culture was located on Peru’s northern coast and experienced its golden age from about the 5th to 8th century. This piece has been TL tested. The age provided here is confirmed by the German laboratory Kotalla’s report no. 3291023 from 1991.
