Description: Terracotta. Peru, Chimú culture, ca. 1300 (dated) TL-test
Spherical, slightly squat form atop an almost flat bottom, the long, pipeshaped neck running through the middle of the monkey’s body. The facial features are very human in appearance, the eyes are large and the expression expectant and eager. The long tail is curled inwards towards the end. The Chimú culture was located in northern Peru and its capital, Chan Chan, was the largest in South America at the time. The kingdom was conquered by the Incan Empire. This piece has been TL tested. The age provided here is confirmed by the German laboratory Kotalla’s report no. 17901029 from 1990.
