Description: Terracotta. Paracas culture, ca. 500 BCE
Cylindrical form, the body widening towards the shoulder. Arms and hands are depicted with engraved lines, the feet hidden under the long robe. The wide face is stylized and the large, rectangular eyes determine its expression. Long hair running down the back; opening on top of the head. The Paracas culture existed from 900 to 200 BCE and is named after a peninsula on Peru’s southern coast where the most important finds have been made.
