Five Satsuma coffee cups and saucers, by Kinkozan
Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century
All decorated in enamels and gilt, each cup painted with two panels enclosing scenes of birds and flowers and a lady with two young children in a graden, reserved on a blue ground with scrolling nadeshiko (pinks), the interior of each cup decorated with three butterflies; the saucers similarly decorated; each signed on the base with seal Kinkozan tsukuru, the saucers additionally signed in gold.
The cups: each 5.2cm high; the saucers: each 10.5cm diam.
