Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912), 19th century
Baluster shaped vase decorated with various coloured enamels and gold, with two large panels depicting mountainous landscape scenes, one with figures near a roadhouse and a bridge with mount Fuji in the background, the other with Samurai near a temple or shrine, each separated by a panel with textiles with various designs on a light green ground with flowers in gold, the base with the Shimazu family crest and signed Dai Nihon Unzan.
