Yokohama Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)
Circular bellied form with flaring partially scalloped rim with floral design to the exterior, the double-skinned body embossed in very high relief with a rampant dragon on a plain polished ground, on a spreading circular collet foot, the base is marked 'jungin' (pure silver), with a seal mark of Musashiya, and the other is an artist's mark reading Yoshihide sei or Yoshihide made.
Diam. 22.5 cm. Height 14 cm.
Catalogue notes:
Yoshihide apparently also worked for the K. Hattori company (now know as Seiko holding corporation), however it is unclear if Yoshihide worked for Musashiya before or after his time at the K. Hattori company, a possibility could be that Yoshihide was an apprentice of Musashiya at the time he created this bowl.
a very similar bowl was sold at Bonhams, London, 10 December 2014, lot 184.
