PROBABLY QIANLONG Crisply carved in shallow relief with a sinuous chilong clambering over the rim of a bi disc which is decorated with formal scrolls. The axe blade with a band of key fret flanked by mythical beasts, a paper label for the Erik Hancock Collection, 11.9cm. Provenance: purchased from the Erik Hancock Collection in the 1970s. Erik Hancock was one of the best-known collector's through the late 1960s and 70s. Born into a privileged Birmingham family he grew up surrounded by antiques and collectables and became fascinated with his father's collection. In young adulthood he too became an avid collector and over his own lifetime amassed a large collection of Chinese Art with a specific interest in Jades and Chinese Snuff Bottles. He was a regular speaker at art clubs around the city and loaned The Birmingham City Museum a portion of his snuff bottle collection. He featured his own collection in many of his talks and often traded amongst fellow collector's in the area. Upon his death some of the collection was bequeathed to the city museum and a portion of his snuff bottle collection was sold. Nearly all the pieces of the collection bare a distinctive collector's label which is easily recognised. Many pieces from his collection are now housed in major collections around the world and listed in publications of private snuff bottle and jade collector's spanning the decades since the 1970s. 十八/十九世紀 黃玉雕仿古斧型佩 來源:1970年代購於Erik Hancock收藏
