This pot was probably used to preserve the ashes of a dead (see Indonesian Art. Treasures of the National Museum, Jakarta, Singapore 1998, p. 123), or as a holy water vessel (for an example in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London dated to 14th-15th century, see inv. n. IS.7-11994).
