Associated with the Surrealist movement Carrington developed a distinctive style characterized by dreamlike imagery and symbolic motifs inspired by mythology and the occult. After settling in Mexico City in 1942 she became a key figure in the city's artistic community. Carrington's enigmatic paintings and literary works explore themes of transformation and the subconscious earning her international acclaim as one of the most important artists of the 20th century.
