拍品描述 翻译
This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserveScientific Analysis Report: A thermoluminescence analysis report issued by Oxford Authentication on 19 January 2016, based on sample number P125s54, sets the firing date of the sample taken between 1500 and 2200 years ago, consistent with the dating above. A copy of the report accompanies this lot.China, 202 BC - 220 AD. The compressed globular body rises from a high, flat foot to a miniature hu-shaped neck with a broad rim, the shoulder modeled with four additional miniature jars (false spouts) set equidistantly around it. The upper and lower body of the main vessel is decorated with bands of incised bowstring decoration. Covered in a pale green-cream glaze above a muddy brown pigment applied to the lower body, with the necks and lower portions of the spouts left unglazed, revealing the speckled buff ware beneath.Provenance: The National Museum of the Philippines. A private collection, Vienna, Austria, acquired from the above, and thence by descent in the same family. Museum label bearing the numbering '0052993' to the underside. Museum certificate lost. Condition: Overall good condition, commensurate with age and use. Expected wear, few nicks, and firing flaws. Some old repairs with associated touchups. A stable crack to the central vessel, and a small hole to the base from sample-taking, with an associated fill.Weight: 2,524 g Dimensions: Height 25 cmClustered pots of this form appear as early as the Neolithic period in China and are also known in bronze. By the Han dynasty, such vessels were produced as mingqi (明器), or grave goods, intended to provide for the deceased in the afterlife; examples with food remains have been excavated from Western Han tombs in Guangdong (Canton), Hunan, and Guangxi. During this period, large numbers of ceramic household forms, architectural models, animals, and figures were made specifically for burial, with tomb assemblages sometimes numbering in the hundreds.Literature comparison: See a closely related five-spouted jar, early 1st to early 3rd century, 26.5 cm high, in the National Museum of Art, Smithsonian Institution, accession number F1984.9. Another closely related jar is in the University of Michigan Museum of Art, accession number 1993/1.99.
