This exquisite five-spout flower vessel is a magnificent example of Qianlong-period imperial porcelain, reflecting the Qing court’s fascination with antiquity and the revival of Song dynasty ceramics. The vessel is circular in form, with a wide flaring rim and a slightly rounded body, resting on a carefully finished base. The exterior is decorated with archaistic key-fret patterns and framed floral motifs, interspersed with raised vertical ribs, enhancing the architectural elegance of its form. The interior features five carefully arranged apertures, designed to hold individual flower stems, an ingenious adaptation of classical Chinese floral arrangement practices. The piece is covered in a lustrous and evenly applied Ru-type glaze, emulating the highly prized celadon wares of the Southern Song dynasty’s Guan (official) kilns. The glaze exhibits a soft, bluish-green hue with a subtly crackled surface (kai pian), reminiscent of Song dynasty masterpieces. The glaze is thick and smooth, pooling slightly in the recesses, creating a sense of depth and warmth, while the network of crackles (craquelure) is finely spaced and elegantly distributed, lending the piece a natural and organic quality. During the Qianlong reign, the imperial kilns at Jingdezhen actively produced archaeologically inspired wares, meticulously recreating the aesthetics of early Chinese ceramics. This piece stands as a remarkable testament to the technical excellence and refined taste of the Qianlong court, offering an impeccable balance of historical reverence and artistic innovation. Flower vessels of this type are exceedingly rare, with very few surviving examples in museum and private collections.
