拍品描述 翻译
With an embroidered artist signature in a corner area, a large and finely detailed antique Kashmir wool paisley shawl, dating to the mid-to-late 19th century. The wide, elaborate field is densely decorated with traditional "jamawar" patterns in a complex palette of muted reds, browns, and golds. The composition is framed by an arched, multicolored border that incorporates alternating decorative panels, a characteristic seen in high-quality Indian and Scottish "piano" shawls of the Victorian era. Also included is a long similar age and woven design Kashmir wool textile with dual-end paisley panels set against a solid green central field with intricate border work, likely a formal sash ("patka") or narrow runner. The shawl has overall very good antique condition, noted condition issues include two small surface stains and a small opening spot near the larger stain, a localized small area of thinning and abrasion is observed along the outer trim/border, residue of white embroidery threads also noticed in the black fabric section. The long textile has good frame condition with creasing, surface wear, and several small holes in the green fibric middle section. All consistent with age and use. Despite these minor flaws, the textile maintains its structural integrity and vibrant coloration." Please refer to the photos for more details. Measures approximately 78" x 78" and 106-1/2" x 20-1/8". Metropolitan Museum of Art Collection Reference: https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/123076. Provenance: From the estate and heirs of Robert Clarence Pruyn (1847–1934), American inventor, banker, businessman, and politician; son of Robert Hewson Pruyn, who was the Minister to Japan as appointed by Abraham Lincoln, and founder of Albany Law School; a member of one of Albany’s oldest and most prominent Dutch families in New York. This property in auction was from the Pruyn/Morgan family Summer home collection at Papoose Island in Clayton, NY, where many of the wealthy families of the Gilded Age summered in the 1000 Islands, lived very well and entertained lavishly.
