拍品描述 翻译
A FINE RUBY-BACKED CANTON ENAMELLED 'LADY AND BOYS' DISH, POSSIBLY IN THE MANNER OF TANG JINTANG Qing Dynasty, Yongzheng Period The dish is potted with a gently everted rim and shallow curving sides, supported on a short foot. The exterior is covered in a rich ruby-pink enamel with interior finely enamelled with a courtly scene of a lady and two boys amidst elegant furnishings and auspicious objects, the dish is particularly notable for the extraordinary control with which the enamels are used to differentiate surfaces and textures. Flesh, silk, lacquered wood, bronze, porcelain, flowers, and scholar's objects are each rendered with distinct pictorial character, creating a composition of remarkable delicacy and visual richness. Especially impressive is the treatment of the table-top antiquities, including a finely gilt-decorated archaistic bronze lion-form censer, whose metallic sheen and intricate ornament are conveyed with exceptional precision. The painter's sensitive handling of line, tone, and colour gives the scene both refinement and material vitality, making this an especially accomplished example. Porcelains of this type are now commonly discussed under the broader category of Guangzhou-enamelled wares: pieces made in Jingdezhen and enamelled in Canton during the Yongzheng and Qianlong periods. Comparable ruby-backed dishes with figural decoration are preserved in the British Museum, while the Rijksmuseum holds a pair of early enamelled vases bearing the seal of Tang Jintang and dated circa 1724. The latter museum further notes that Tang Jintang, known as a craftsman in Canton, was summoned to Beijing in 1741 to work for the imperial enamel workshop, underscoring the prestige attached to master enamellers of this group. Although the present dish is unmarked, the sensitive treatment of the faces, textiles, furniture, and gilt ornament suggests a hand of considerable refinement. In view of its close stylistic affinities with works associated with Tang Jintang and related early Guangzhou-enamelled porcelains, it may cautiously be placed within the Tang Jintang manner, or at the very least within the orbit of a highly accomplished Canton enameller. Surviving works linked to Tang Jintang appear to be exceptionally rare, which further enhances the significance of pieces of this character. For a comparable example, see China Guardian, March 2025, sold for RMB 632,500. approximately AUD 136,834. Provenance: The David Thompson Collection
