拍品描述 翻译
A FAMILLE ROSE 'HUNDRED BUTTERFLIES' VASEGUANGXU SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD Qing Dynasty, Guangxu Period (1875–1908) The vase is potted in an elegant bottle form, with a flared mouth, long neck, rounded body and neatly finished foot. It is decorated in famille rose with numerous butterflies in varied colours and positions, creating a lively and auspicious design. Vases of this type were made as refined decorative wares during the late Qing period. The "Hundred Butterflies" motif was especially popular in the Guangxu reign. The form derives from the classic pear-shaped vase, with graceful proportions and a clear decorative structure. Examples of this type are often around 39 cm high and are among the more recognisable famille-rose vase forms of the period. The decoration is arranged in well-defined bands. The rim is bordered with ruyi-cloud motifs, while the shoulder is decorated with scrolling lotus and auspicious emblems, often divided by gilt borders. The lower body is further framed by upright lotus-petal lappets. The principal decoration, covering the neck and body, consists of butterflies painted in bright famille-rose enamels. The butterfly is an auspicious motif in Chinese decoration, associated with longevity, joy and prosperity. Here, the many butterflies give the vase a festive and elegant appearance, while the structured borders provide balance to the rich design. The base bears a six-character iron-red Guangxu mark. The form, palette and decoration are consistent with Guangxu-period imperial-kiln taste, when richly enamelled decorative vases were produced for court use and display. Provenance: Hong Kong Auctioneers and Estate Agency Ltd., Hong Kong, 18 November 1988, Lot 197 Iain Clark Collection, Sydney, acquired from the above Fine Asian, Australian & European Arts & Design, Sotheby's Australia, Melbourne, 18 July 2018, Lot 292
