拍品描述 翻译
Description A page from the Bhagavata Purana series. At nightfall, Krishna, Balarama, and the other shepherds return to the town of Vrindavan, greeted by the folk celebrating their arrival with drums and horns. The women of the town meet the herd at the gates while fetching water from the Yamuna River for the last time. All of them wear saris of different colors and designs, and one — who seems to have been eagerly anticipating Krishna’s return — stands before him in a violet dress, a transparent veil stitched with gold thread draped over her head. Krishna, pausing to take a breath after playing his flute, gazes calmly in her direction. He is dressed in beautiful golden textiles and adorned with a magnificent peacock-feather headdress. Narrow red border, gold frame with geometric pattern, pink upper margin with a legend in Devanagari script at the top. "...In the evening they would go back with the cows and the cowherds to the village where during the day all activity seemed to have become meaningless in the absence of everyone's beloved, Krishna. For the villagers, it was as if life came back only with the return of Krishna at the sacred hour of cowdust." (E. Isacco, A.L. Dallapiccola and others, Krishna - The Divine Lover: Myth and Legend Through Indian Art, Boston 1982, p. 41) Dimensions 30.5 x 38.8 cm (leaf); 24.9 x 37.2 cm (miniature) Exhibited Indian Miniatures from the Jeffrey Paley Collection, Metropolitan Museum of Arts, New York, 6.8.–30.9.1974 Literature Published in: Martin Lerner, Indian Miniatures from the Jeffrey Paley Collection, exhibition catalogue in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 6.8.–30.9.1974, no. 40 Enrico Isacco, Anna L.
