The Mino Senjuin school was among the most prominent sword-making traditions active from the late Nanbokucho through the late Muromachi period (mid-14th to early 16th century) in Mino Province (present-day Gifu Prefecture). The school was based in Akasaka village, near Sekigahara, a site of longstanding strategic importance as a center of transportation and military activity. It is said that the school was founded by Sensui, son of Yamato no Kuni Senjuin Shigehiro, thereby establishing a direct connection to the renowned Yamato tradition, one of the principal centers of sword production during the late Heian and Kamakura periods.
