拍品描述 翻译
Dimensions: 13 cm (5.12 inches) in diameter, 7.6 cm (2.99 inches) in height, approximately 5000 years old. Condition and Provenance: This pottery is well-preserved, with no through-cracks or major repairs. The rim has only minor natural chips, showing no signs of modern restoration. The red clay body is solid, and the black geometric patterns on the exterior are well-preserved. A uniform patina naturally adheres to the clay surface, and clear wheel marks are visible on the flat foot. The original patina and ancient texture are authentic and have not undergone modern chemical cleaning or artificial aging. This artifact originally came from an archaeological site in Northwest China, was later acquired by an antique gallery in Hong Kong, and in 2015 was acquired by a private prehistoric pottery collection in Pennsylvania, USA. Hong Kong, California, and Vancouver are major trading centers for ancient prehistoric ceramics worldwide. Description: This geometric-patterned painted pottery bowl from the Majiayao culture represents ritual vessels and daily necessities from the prehistoric civilization of the upper Yellow River, and is a typical type of Neolithic Majiayao painted pottery. It features a constricted rim, sloping outer walls, a shallow body, and a conical base with a small, flat foot. The overall shape is stable and sturdy, suggesting it was used by ancient people to hold grain, water, or for sacrificial rituals. The bowl's walls are covered with continuous, multi-layered black geometric patterns, the neat and symmetrical folds giving it a strong sense of visual order. These primitive patterns reflect the early geometric aesthetics and totem worship of prehistoric peoples, while the cyclical patterns symbolize eternal life and endless cycles—early auspicious concepts in ancient China. This piece was handcrafted using the coil-building method, with the outer walls polished smooth before being coated with black mineral pigment and fired at a low temperature. The fine, porous red clay body is covered with a thick patina accumulated over millennia, the black pigment tightly bonded to the clay without significant peeling. The clearly visible traces of hand-trimming on the bottom provide direct material evidence for the study of prehistoric pottery-making techniques and primitive decorative systems in Northwest China. Well-preserved Majiayao painted pottery is widely collected overseas, but vessels with complete decorations and moderate size are relatively rare. This piece possesses extremely high archaeological and prehistoric artistic value, and is highly sought after by collectors of prehistoric artifacts and museum-level connoisseurs in North America, making it a classic core piece in ancient pottery collecting.
