拍品描述 翻译
Dimensions: 20 cm (7.87 inches) wide, 30 cm (11.81 inches) high. A 19th-century Qing dynasty huanghuali wood niche decorated with gilded Arabic inscriptions. Condition and Provenance: This niche is carved from a single piece of high-quality Hainan huanghuali wood, with smooth grain and clearly visible red and black mountain patterns. The surface is covered with a thick, translucent, antique amber patina, which, with the passage of time, enhances its rustic elegance. The niche's design imitates a miniature temple shrine, with a cantilevered sloping roof and a double-tiered base. The front door features nine arched, openwork viewing windows, neatly arranged with smooth, rounded arch lines. The interior is engraved with gilded Arabic inscriptions, also neatly arranged; most of the gilding is well-preserved with only minor natural wear. The interior space is divided by three tiers of fixed storage shelves, equipped with original, unaltered hinges to ensure a tight closure. This huanghuali display cabinet is free from wood cracks, insect damage, defects, structural repairs, spliced or replaced wood, post-cutting, or gilding; its natural patina remains untouched by modern restoration. Originally acquired from an Asian antiques gallery in Toronto, this cabinet entered the private collection of a Virginia collector specializing in Chinese antique wood and bamboo artifacts in 2026. New York, Virginia, Vancouver, and Toronto are major global trading centers for Chinese antique wood and scholar's objects. Description: This Qing dynasty huanghuali gilded Arabic-style Buddhist niche display cabinet is extremely rare. It blends classical Chinese woodworking techniques with Islamic cultural elements, originating from the prosperous Maritime Silk Road trade and cross-cultural exchange of the mid-to-late Qing dynasty. The design is directly inspired by traditional Chinese Buddhist niche architecture, with layered eaves and a stepped base giving it a striking three-dimensional visual effect. The cabinet features nine arched openwork viewing windows across three tiers, reducing its weight while providing an unobstructed view of the jade pendants, beads, Buddha statues, and other small ornaments inside, combining practical storage functionality with decorative value for tabletop display. The cabinet is crafted from high-quality, high-oil huanghuali wood, meticulously cared for over centuries, resulting in a natural amber luster and smooth, natural grain that highlights its inherent texture without the need for paint. Long Arabic poems are engraved on the inner doors, embellished with hand-filled gold powder; the precise carving depth and flowing gilding lines complement each other, creating a striking cultural treasure that records the long history of trade and religious exchange between China and West Asia. Fixed internal partitions categorize and store smaller collectibles, while the handcrafted Ming and Qing dynasty traditional mortise and tenon structure and original hinges ensure the doors open and close securely without any loosening. Well-preserved huanghuali cabinets, especially those with complete Arabic gold inscriptions, are extremely rare in the global antique market; most existing huanghuali cabinets are decorated only with Chinese landscape or floral patterns, making such a collection, blending multiple cultures, even more exceptional. This piece, constructed from unprocessed solid wood, boasts well-preserved gilded Islamic script and retains its original, untouched patina. It represents a perfect combination of top-grade huanghuali wood, unique cross-cultural decorative patterns, exquisite classical mortise and tenon craftsmanship, and its pristine state of preservation. Not only is it tangible evidence for studying cultural exchange along the Maritime Silk Road during the Qing Dynasty, but it is also highly sought after by collectors of classical Chinese hardwood furniture and antiques in North America, possessing exceptional artistic, historical, and long-term investment value.
