Dimensions: 57 cm (22.44 inches) in height, 19.8 cm (7.80 inches) in diameter at the mouth. A late 19th-century Qing dynasty famille rose display porcelain piece. Condition and Provenance: This vase is structurally intact, without any through-cracks, chipped rims, or signs of glaze repair. Only slight wear on the rim due to long-term display is present. All original famille rose glazes are vibrant and rich, with distinct layers, and no large areas of glaze loss or modern repainting. The turquoise neck is decorated with intertwined floral patterns, each petal and leaf clearly defined and richly colored. The central circular decoration on the body features a five-clawed dragon, cloud patterns, and flaming pearl motifs, painted with delicate brushstrokes. The sides are adorned with well-preserved red auspicious bats and ribbon patterns. The yellow, pink, and blue geometric patterns and banana leaf motifs near the base are clear and intact. The ring exhibits natural patina and slight wear, consistent with antique display characteristics. The base bears a six-character iron-red seal script mark reading "Made in the Qianlong Reign of the Great Qing Dynasty," a late Qing dynasty imitation of an antique mark. The brushstrokes are natural, showing no signs of modern re-engraving or artificial aging. This large famille rose vase with dragon motif was treasured for decades by a seasoned antique dealer in southern China. In 2024, it was consigned to a Los Angeles gallery specializing in Ming and Qing porcelain for auction, and subsequently acquired in 2026 by a private collector of Qing porcelain in California, USA. California, New York, and Vancouver are major global trading centers for Ming and Qing porcelain. Description: This extra-large famille rose display vase, dating back to the late Qing dynasty, is a high-end custom-made ceramic masterpiece, crafted for grand indoor displays and ceremonial gifts. Its large and dignified form makes such a well-preserved piece extremely rare on the current antique market. Following the classic form of a gift vase: a wide mouth, a long neck, a full cylindrical body, gradually tapering to a stable foot, the overall piece is tall and elegant, exuding extraordinary presence and attracting attention on any occasion. The neck of the bottle is entirely covered in rich turquoise enamel, adorned with colorful interwoven auspicious flowers and winding vine patterns, and accented with red bat motifs—bats symbolize good fortune and happiness in Chinese culture. Below the neck are pink banana leaf patterns and yellow ruyi (auspicious scepter) patterns, creating a layered decoration that showcases the classic layout of late Qing dynasty famille rose porcelain. The body of the bottle is pure white, decorated with a circular emblem containing a majestic five-clawed imperial dragon. The dragon's body is meticulously painted with yellow and green enamel, its scales and whiskers lifelike, surrounded by colorful auspicious clouds and a flaming pearl, symbolizing the prosperity of the imperial family and the peace and tranquility of the nation. Symmetrical red bats, carrying coin ribbons, encircle both sides of the emblem; the ribbons are woven with the Eight Treasures, further enhancing the auspicious meaning of the vessel. The lower half is surrounded by repeating geometric patterns in yellow, blue, and pink, showcasing the bold and luxurious use of color in Qianlong-era famille rose porcelain. The exposed foot rim is made of pure white clay, and after hundreds of years, it displays a faint, natural brown wear and patina. The iron-red imitation Qianlong mark on the bottom reflects the prevalent antique-style trend among late Qing dynasty ceramic artisans. The award vase originated as an official ceremonial vessel in the Qing court; later, wealthy commoners and nobles also commissioned the creation of large famille rose award vases to decorate their residences, with dragon and bat motifs being the most popular. This award vase is well-proportioned, with an almost intact glaze, no obvious flaking, clearly discernible decorations, and a bright, lustrous glaze, making it exceptionally well-preserved. It authentically preserves the mature firing techniques, unique colors, and traditional symbolic art of late Qing dynasty famille rose porcelain. Among North American antique porcelain collectors, well-preserved large famille rose dragon-patterned award vases are highly sought after, being both highly decorative works of art and valuable investment collectibles.
