Condition and Provenance: Condition: This incense burner is in excellent condition, with intact handles, a balanced shape, and natural crackling in the glaze, retaining authentic surface features relevant to its age. The unglazed base retains traditional kiln firing marks. Provenance: Private collection, New York, USA. Description: This Yue ware celadon incense burner with ribbon-shaped handles is a classic example of ancient ceramics, used for burning incense, offering to Buddhist objects, and for elegant display by literati. Measuring 15 cm wide and 9 cm high, its shape imitates the ancient bronze ritual vessel, the ribbon, reflecting the evolution of bronze ritual vessel forms into early Chinese ceramics. The body features a slightly flared rim, a constricted neck, and a full, rounded belly, decorated with several horizontal raised lines that outline a simple yet powerful silhouette. The vessel is supported by an outward-flaring foot, with symmetrical dragon-shaped handles on both sides of the shoulder, inspired by the dragon patterns of the ancient bronze vessel "Kui". The carved handles are seamlessly integrated with the body, giving the object a strong sense of ritual. The entire body is covered with a grayish-green glaze, the color deep and mature. The thick glaze layer is covered with natural ice crackles, presenting an ancient charm that has been refined over hundreds of years. The interior is also glazed, with fine firing bubbles visible on the surface, reflecting the characteristics of traditional kiln firing techniques. The lower part of the foot is unglazed, showcasing the original texture of the clay and the natural transition between the glaze and the ceramic. The bottom presents a rough, sandy firing surface, with earthy tones of clay, kiln rack marks, and the sediment of time, preserving the authentic appearance of early ceramic production. Rather than being overly ornate, it is more simple and unadorned. This incense burner's design is inspired by ancient bronze ritual vessels and was used in sacrificial sites, Buddhist temples, and the elegant residences of literati. Its structure is intact, retaining the original double handles. Its shape is simple and elegant, and its celadon surface is also unique, fully demonstrating the exquisite craftsmanship of early Chinese high-temperature fired ceramics. To this day, it remains a coveted treasure for collectors of ancient Chinese ritual objects.
