拍品描述 翻译
Dimensions:Overall Height 26cm (10.24 in), 14th-17th Century A.D.Condition & Provenance:The jar and its original matching pearl-knob lid are fully intact, free of cracks, chips or restoration. The whole piece is covered with soft mild white glaze dotted with tiny antique brown specks and natural wheel-throwing spiral lines formed during firing. Pale yellow natural burial stains remain inside the jar, the unglazed base foot features tight dry clay with faint orange soil patina along the rim, covered by consistent thick antique patina. Provenance: Private collection, San Francisco, California, USA. Acquired at San Francisco Asian Antique Fair back in 1995, preserved exclusively within one private family without any resale ever since.Description:This large plain white glazed covered jar was produced at folk kilns during China’s Ming Dynasty, a heavy standard household vessel for storage and display. The piece consists of two matched components: the jar body and its domed lid. It features a wide short straight neck with flared rim, a full rounded belly tapering gently toward the bottom, supported by a thick flat foot ring. The silhouette is grand and steady with smooth soft curves and well-proportioned large volume. Its matching domed lid has a wide outward folded rim, topped with one plump round pearl knob at the center, presenting a simple yet elegant shape that perfectly matches the jar body. The entire vessel, interior and exterior, is fully coated in clean milky white glaze with even thickness and subtle understated luster. No painted decorations are applied; the pure white glaze alone highlights the natural beauty of its shape. Fine distinct spiral wheel marks spread all over the outer wall, authentic craft traces left by ancient pottery wheels. Tiny dark pinprick specks scatter across the glaze, all natural firing marks without later artificial damage. The inner cavity is fully glazed with pale white glaze, marked by light yellowish-brown burial stains accumulated over centuries. The base foot is unglazed, revealing dense off-white clay with trimming spiral marks at the center, a band of pale orange soil patina clings to the outer foot ring carrying strong ancient atmosphere. Large white glazed jars were widely used for storage and burial display in Ming times, yet complete large specimens retaining their original pearl-knob lids are extremely rare today. This jar adopts a minimalist undecorated design that matches the restrained, plain aesthetic of Ming folk art. With complete original lid and well-preserved glaze, it carries great research value for Ming folk ceramic craftsmanship and folk customs, standing as a high-value representative large Ming white glaze collectible.
