Dimensions: Gift Carrier: Overall Height 68cm (26.77in), Max Width 49.5cm (19.49in); Precious Lotus Scroll Plate Rim Diameter 20.5cm (8.07in); Eight Buddhist Treasures Lotus Scroll Large Plate Rim Diameter 28cm (11.02in); Sanskrit Character Conical Bowl Rim Diameter 19.5cm (7.68in), Height 7.3cm (2.87in), Qing Dynasty, 18th to 19th CenturyCondition & Provenance: The bamboo and wood carrier is categorized as Miscellaneous Works of Art, primary market destination Vancouver; the three blue-and-white porcelains fall under Ming & Qing Porcelain, primary market destination New York State. This intact complete set has descended through three generations in the private collection of Thomas Howard, a long-established antique collector based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. The full ensemble was consigned and released at Christie’s Vancouver Asian Antiques Auction in 2024 and has never been split apart in circulation.Carrier Condition: The three-tier stacking structure is fully intact with no missing pieces. The hardwood frame is sturdy, coated with a complete, naturally aged antique lacquer patina. Each octagonal panel is woven from fine bamboo strips into endless wan symbols, tight and stable with no loose weaving. The central vertical handle features double-sided openwork relief carving of mountain landscapes and ancient scholars, with crisp, defined details on figures, rocks and foliage. All brass corner protectors and latches are original factory fittings, not later replacements, covered with authentic antique oxidation patina. Only minor soft wear exists along select wood edges from centuries of handling. There are no wood borers, deep structural splits, large restorations or modern stripping and re-lacquering. Full family inheritance records and professional bamboo & wood antique appraisal documents are provided alongside the carrier.Uniform Porcelain Condition for All Three Pieces: All three ceramic wares are fully intact, free of hairline cracks, rim chips, edge nicks, or glaze touch-up restorations. The porcelain body and glaze are dense, smooth and glossy, the cobalt blue pigment delivers consistent, rich color saturation with fully preserved sharp decorative linework. Only faint, tiny age-related surface marks appear along the rims, with no post-firing enamel additions or chemical artificial aging treatments. Thermoluminescence dating reports from Sotheby’s New York and formal professional porcelain appraisal certificates are attached to each piece, alongside the original complete collection invoice documenting the full matching setDescription: This all-original matching Qing-dynasty ensemble consists of one large three-tier octagonal bamboo and wood gift carrier, purpose-built to store three distinct blue-and-white decorative porcelains. It is a complete original household set for wealthy Jiangnan families during festivals, wedding ceremonies and interior display, remaining unseparated for over a hundred years, making surviving intact matching sets extremely scarce on today’s global antique market. The outer carrying basket functioned as a formal ceremonial vessel for weddings, ancestor worship and feasts. Its eight-sided three-tier removable storage layout features panels woven with interlocking wan character patterns, a symbol of everlasting generational prosperity. The central vertical handle is carved from a single solid hardwood plank with double-sided hollow relief of mountain scenery and classical literati figures, with multi-layered carving creating deep visual depth and delicate detailing on scholar robes, trees and stone formations. Original matching brass hardware caps and locking fixtures anchor the top and bottom of the handle, fitted perfectly to the wood frame with thick, natural aged patina formed over centuries of oxidation. The outer hardwood frame is finished with a deep brown antique lacquer that has developed a smooth, rich inherited patina, with symmetrical decorative detailing across all eight sides. It perfectly showcases three core traditional Chinese crafts from the Jiangnan region: fine bamboo weaving, hardwood openwork sculpture and antique brass metal fitting craft.Stored neatly inside the carrier are three distinct classic blue-and-white porcelain pieces, each with unique shapes and decorative motifs, complementary for both daily use and display. First, the Precious Lotus Scroll Plate boasts silky smooth white glaze, with four full blooming precious lotus flowers surrounded by winding scroll foliage framed by neat double blue concentric lines; the precious lotus motif symbolizes wealth, purity and good fortune. Second, the Large Eight Buddhist Treasures Lotus Scroll Plate features a central Dharma Wheel core pattern, encircled by intertwined lotus vines holding the Eight Auspicious Buddhist Symbols including conch, canopy and endless knot, a staple ceramic design for Qing-dynasty Buddhist shrine display. Third, the Sanskrit Character Conical Flared Bowl is densely covered with sacred Sanskrit script across both interior and exterior walls, arranged in neat, solemn rows, crafted as a traditional offering bowl for Buddhist rituals. All three ceramics display well-executed blue-and-white wash with clear light-dark color layering, steady, skilled brushwork, fine thin porcelain bodies and perfectly symmetrical shapes with no warping or deformation, paired with stable, authentic cobalt pigment. This full matching set combining a large folk art gift carrier and three museum-quality blue-and-white wares carries dual collectible appeal of Chinese folk ceremonial artifacts and high-quality Qing decorative porcelain. Fully intact unseparated original sets like this are rarely seen in global antique trade. The ensemble works beautifully as a single statement display for traditional Chinese estate interiors, while each porcelain piece can also be pulled out for separate appreciation. It encapsulates multi-layered cultural heritage covering Qing folk etiquette, Buddhist symbolic art and classical Jiangnan handcraft techniques, holding immense value for collection, interior decor and academic craft research, highly sought after by senior American collectors specializing in East Asian antiques.
