CAC Sticker. Breen-1154, W-8520. Not much is known about the "Bar Cent" issue aside from the approximate time of its circulation in early American commerce due to a brief mention in the New Jersey Gazette. The separate 13 states (bars) unite into a single entity as symbolized by the interlocking letters (USA). Russell Rulau researched the mysterious "Bar Cent" tokens and concluded that they were struck by Thomas Wyon in Birmingham, England. It is believed to have first circulated in New York in November 1785.Specialists know the diagnostics for the distinctive and famous "Bar Cent." The A is over the S, which in turn is over the U. Using coin turn, a design of 13 parallel bars displays a spur down from the right end of the second bar, and a slender die crack connects two bars at the reverse center. Both sides present a smooth, mark-free appearance, and have toned to a deep mahogany-brown appearance. As required of the superlative grade assessment, there is no sign of verdigris, corrosion, or spotting. A remarkably preserved example. It is tied with two others at PCGS as the finest certified at both services. Listed on page 75-6 of the 2018 Guide Book. (PCGS 599)
