拍品描述 翻译
The lower part of the base is incised with a dated inscription: 'Da Ming Zhengtong Jiwei Jinchuan Biqiu Changjing Juanzi Minggong zao (Commissioned by monk Chang Jing of Jinchuan in the Jiwei year during the Zhengtong reign of the Ming dynasty'. The figure depicts Manjushri, Bodhisattva of Wisdom, seated on a double-lotus base with his hands in dharmachakra mudra, flanked by lotus stems supporting his symbolic book and sword, with a small lion at his feet. Of exceptional importance is the rare seventeen-character inscription recording that it was commissioned by the monk Chang Jing of Jinchuan during the Zhengtong reign of the Ming dynasty. Very few gilt-bronze Buddhist figures bear a Zhengtong date, and a closely related Akshobya sold at Sotheby’s Paris (Sotheby's Paris, 10 December 2019, lot 18, sold for €432,500) suggests that such works may have formed part of a series commissioned by the same monk. Its refined craftsmanship reflects the continued influence of the Yongle and Xuande sculptural traditions during the early Ming period. 9.7/8 in. high, 6.3/4 in. wide. Provenance: An English private collection; Christie's Paris, 11 December 2024, lot 170; Rob Michiels Auctions Bruges, 19 June 2025, lot 735. There are some dents and nicks to the surface and rims; some old patches, two are now missing on the base's lower rim; the extremities of the ribbon behind the proper left ear have been chipped off; a few casting holes / flaws; the central piece of the tiara slightly bent backwards; wear to the gilding; surface scratches.
