Description: The jade carved in high relief, the mineral being of almost absolutely flawless dark-green color, with a good and smooth surface finish
China, 18th – 19th century
With a circumferential band of raised lotus flowers accompanied by the vines and leaves, the lip surrounded by a traditional band of ruyi, the raised foot rim surrounded by a formalized chrysanthemum petal band.
This bowl is an interesting example of two cultures meeting in one single design. The traditional Chinese is represented by a strictly formal ruyi band, while the Mughal is represented by a no less formal, yet completely different band of aligned geometric Chrysanthemum petals. The large flower band is situated in the center between those two smaller bands and bears characteristics from both cultures.
