Description: Ca. 19th century antique bronze Meditation Buddha and Naga adorned stupa. This Buddhist commemorative monument would been used to house a relic associated with the Buddha or other saintly person. The hemispherical form of the stupa was derived from pre-Buddhist burial mounds in India. The sculpture supports a solid dome (the anda, egg or garbha). The Stupa is richly decorated with four seated Buddha in Meditation or Dhyana mudra. Encircling the Stupa are 12 Naga seperents providing protection to the contents. The Stupa is formed from two seperate, interlocking parts. Provenance: Ex- UK Collection.
