Description: Altar hanging for Daoist ceremonies. China, 18th/ 19th century. Silk and fulled wool fabric embroidered with colored silk and gold threads. 90 x 114 cm. Upper part embroidered with people of different operas as well as four Chinese characters, reading 'The Devine Jade Emperor'. The lower part shows a big, four-clawed dragon, surrounded by fenghuang-birds, a qilin and a son of a dragon as a turtle, bixi.
