Artist Name: Chagall, Marc Title: Derriere le Miroir, no.198, pg 14,15 Medium: Framed Lithograph Edition Size: Unknown Year: 1972 Frame Size: Paper Size: 26.75 x 33.75 inches Image Size: 15 x 22 inches Condition: A-: Near Mint, very light signs of handling Notes: Original double page lithograph from Derriere le Miroir, number 198, 1972, page 14,15. Published by Maeght, Paris. Reference number 651 in ‘Lithographs IV, 1969-1973", Mourlot & Sorlier. With original fold line down the middle. He had two basic reputations, writes Lewis: as a pioneer of modernism and as a major Jewish artist. He experienced modernism's "golden age" in Paris, where "he synthesized the art forms of Cubism, Symbolism, and Fauvism, and the influence of Fauvism gave rise to Surrealism". Yet throughout these phases of his style "he remained most emphatically a Jewish artist, whose work was one long dreamy reverie of life in his native village of Vitebsk."
