Compare a very similar figure from the Richard Lehman Gray collection illustrated in John Ayers, 'Blanc de Chine: Divine Images in Porcelain', New York, 2002, p. 97, catalogue no. 48. In the description, Ayers mentions two further similar figures: one in the Fujian Provincial Museum published in Fung Ping Shan Museum, 'Dehua Wares', hong Kong, 1990, no. 120, and in Burghley House, England illustrated in Gordon Lang, 'The Wrestling Boys: An Exhibition of Chinese and Japanese Ceramics in the Collection at Burghley House, Stamford, 1983, no. 235.
Condition: One of the tassels of the cap is chipped, and there is a fine crack to the end of the tassel.
There are some fine cracks to the other tassel, and to the bowtie on the robe.
