McLendon (American, b. 1932) Florida Highwaymen, oil on canvas, illustrates a magnificent crimson red Royal Poinciana shedding its flowers in late spring/early summer over a woman walking with her childalong a small riverside dirt path. A home to the right of the scene has a woman outside hanging clothes to dry under the shade of the mossy live oaks. The late afternoon clouds of purple and pink starkly contrast a gentleblue sky.
