Such vessels of this type were made for imperial use as well as for the export market. In their embellishment and shape they were produced to suit the Mongol taste and the Central Asian markets.

Blue and White Style
Blue and white porcelain had its golden age in the Chinese Ming dynasty (1368-1644), but it is believed that this type of porcelain was first introduced in the Tang dynasty (618-906). The proverbial ‘Ming vase’ is still the epitome of the European idea of Chinese porcelain art. The blue color is achieved by a mixture of cobalt oxide and water, and is then painted onto the porcelain before glazing and firing. Afterwards it is coated with a transparent glaze.
GUANG
This type of vessel, which was typical for the Shang period, often features the shape of an animal. The vessel was used in ritual festivals as a container for water and wine, or served as grave goods. The GUANG vessel has a thick foot, a thick hollow body and depicts one or more stylized animals. The handle and the spout can be found opposite. The end of the snout of the animal serves as a spout its tail as a handle. The back and sometimes the animal head act mostly as a removable lid. The body is decorated with archaic motifs such as taotie masks.
