Napoleon III Ormolu-Mounted Boulle Marquetry Marble-Top Commode Cabinet The panels in the manner of Nicolas Sageot and possibly early 18th century. Of breakfront outline, the petit antique marble top with moulded edge above three doors, each inset with Boulle marquetry panel worked in premiere-partie to show grotesques in the style of Berain, the central panel depicting a male dancer with a tambourine, the flanking panels showing performers surrounded by various animals including Horn blowing monkeys, birds and insects, within gilt bronze leaf-tip border, the case with various mounts including rosettes, leafy scrolls and masks, raised on plinth base with bronze paw feet to the front and bun feet to the rear. Nicolas Sageot (1666-1731) received ma??tre 1706 and was active from circa 1690 until 1720 when he sold his stock. The tortoiseshell and brass panels on the current lot are similarly inlaid to other panels attributable to Nicolas Sageot.
