Description: Edith Varian Cockcroft (American,1881 - 1962) Modernist painting on board depicting a country bridge over a river. Edith Cockcroft was influenced by Henri Matisse with whom she studied in Paris in 1898. Born in Brooklyn, she went on to exhibit in Paris at the Salon de la Society Nationale des Beaux Arts and the Salon d'Automme. She also exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the International Art Union, the Salons of America, the Pennsylvania Academy and the Corcoran Gallery. Unframed, needs cleaning. Very good condition (minor losses to corners, surface scratch to varnish, right side, see photos). Measures 13" x 10".
