The group comprises a white jade water caltrop; a celadon jade sword slide incised to the upper surface with interlocking ruyi-heads bordering a row of cross-hatched diamonds to the centre, a stylized beast-head is carved to one edge; and a duck with its wings folded and head turned backwards holding a lotus spray, its stem carved in openwork leading to an upturned leaf supporting the duck.
The water caltrop: 5 cm. x 2.5 cm.
The sword slide: 10.5 cm. long
The duck: 4 cm. x 4.5 cm.
Catalogue notes: the Chinese water caltrop, also called a water chestnut, has played an important ritual role since the Zhou dynasty.

Condition: The water caltrop and duck:
Appears to be in overall good condition, a few small tiny chips to the extremities.
The sword slide:
With a fine natural crack to one corner, with a small associated loss.
The underside of the short hooked edge possibly very slightly polished.
Small chips to the extremities and surface wear consistent with age.
