Chinese Ming Dynasty dragons porcelain bowl finely potted in deep vessel body, rounded cavetto toward flat rim, raised on footed ring base, with one molded ring banded under the cavetto. DouCai means colors which fit together and can be seen by the harmoniously painted floral design covering the bowls outer surface. The artistry is a combination of underglaze cobalt blue outlines and enamels added on top of the fired glaze, within the outlines. This glazing technique was invented during the Ming, Xuande period but are mostly related to the Ming, Chenghua rule from (1465-1487). The blue elements of the design were painted under the glaze. The focal point is a large colorful bloom bursting forth with life. Elaborate organic patterns adorn the entire vase giving this piece a lively quality. Chenghua six characters reign mark in underglazed blue, Ming Dynasty.
Xuande vertical six characters reign mark and double fine rings in underglazed blue, Ming Dynasty.
